Yazeed is a sophomore on the soccer team and has already stepped up for his team. Last week the Guardians played SIS who they tied and lost to last year. This time around, Yazeed scored the opening goal after controlling a ball in the air and then spinning to kick it into the back of the net. Then with the game tied 2-2, he scored again to give YISS the victory.

One of his senior teammates said, "When I think of Yazeed i think of a guy, small but mighty. His turns with the ball are unbelievable. This season I've been really proud of him & he has been starting in a lot of games. He is one of the smartest on the team and has what it takes to be a future MVP with his skills and great understanding of the game. Keep watching Yazeed Ayesh!"

Holly Yoo, Senior
What a year it has been for the YISS Varsity cheer team!  Having had their tryouts last May, the team has had a long time to mesh....and to also fall apart.  Despite having lost a few members in the 2nd semester, the team has managed to stay together.  And that is largely due to senior Holly Yoo.  Holly is in her 1st year as captain but has had a major impact on the team both spiritually and aesthetically - she designed the team's warm-ups and the KAIAC Competition t-shirt.  With one more obstacle to overcome (KAIAC Cheer Competition on February 11th), this senior will most definitely make sure that her team will "bring it on"!

Sarah Kim, Sophomore
What a first half to the season! The Lady Guardians come into the break 5-1 and tied for 2nd place in KAIAC. One player that has emerged is Sophomore Sarah Kim. Her intense play, high motor, and great fitness have all been keys to her contributions this season. She is currently averaging about 17 points per game. This is more than any player in Lady Guardians history! Her 21-point effort and buzzer beater winning shot vs. Seoul Foreign School has been the highlight of this season. No Lady Guardian has scored over 20 point since Esther Oh ’08 scored 22 vs. KIS in 2008. If she has her uniform at every game, she is going to continue to be a force to be reckoned with.

Raymond Lee
Ray has been a part of the basketball program since he was in 7th grade. Back then, when we were a little bit smaller, Middle School students could play on the sports teams. I know it's hard to imagine now, but back then, Raymond was pretty puny. He was basically the tackling dummy for Allen Shin, who at that time was a lot bigger than him. Allen probably gave Raymond at least 4 concussions. But Raymond worked...and worked...and now he's starting point guard and the 2nd leading scorer on the team. He's a great leader and he's grown up a lot since the old days. I mean, look at those biceps.

Lumina Lee
This year’s Lumina’s first year on the varsity girls tennis team, and her career is ever flourishing. She started playing when she was still a little toddler in elementary school. She took a temporary break from tennis during her middle school years because she moved to France. She transferred to YISS in 10th grade, where she took a year off to begin to transition into living in Korea. In the 11th grade, she joined the varsity tennis team, where she took her place as a doubles player with Joanna Ryu. As of now, she has a perfect win/lost ratio with the three games she has played in.

Steven Song
Steven returns to for his fourth year to lead the guys' tennis team as captain and representing the Guardians as a singles player. Steven is very much involved at YISS, serving the school in student council and also various compassion and community service clubs. His heart to serve is a true testament of a strong leader and has earned the respect from his team.

Captain, Brian Oh

Sophomore Brian Oh started for the Boys' JV team this year while showing his flexibility in playing multiple positions. Coach Swinger entrusted him with captain of the team who has victories against TCIS, GSIS, & KIS. Oh improved this season by averaging about five points a game, three assists, four rebounds, and one steal this season.

Brian commented, "Even though we had more talent last year, we fought each game and different guys stepped up." This year the team lost James Bai, Chris Yoo, Sam Kang, David Suh, & Ben Linssen to varsity while starting forward Denny Fujioka moved to the U.S.

YISSPN owes a lot of its success to its photographers. At the beginning of the basketball season, Grace was the sports' photographer and had a natural ability for shooting. After she moved back to America over the Christmas break, 10th grader, Jane Lee, stepped up to help fill the need. As you can see, Jane has a lot of potential in photography and is a great asset to YISSPN.
